I’ve lived and worked in the Leduc area for a long time, and there are certain things about this city that you really don’t appreciate until you actually live here.
People moving to Leduc often know the basics. We’re close to Edmonton, close to the airport, and you can get pretty much everything you need without leaving the city.
But there are a few things you only really learn once Leduc becomes home.
You Can Get Almost Anywhere in 10 Minutes
Okay, maybe not everywhere in exactly 10 minutes, but compared to living in a larger city, getting around Leduc is incredibly easy.
Going for groceries, meeting someone for coffee, getting the kids to an activity, or running a quick errand doesn’t have to become an afternoon project.
And once you’ve become accustomed to that, a 45 minute drive across Edmonton suddenly feels very, very long.
Telford Lake Is Kind of a Big Deal
When you live here, it’s easy to take Telford Lake for granted.
It’s right in the middle of the city, with trails, green space and plenty of room to get outside. You can go for a walk around the lake and almost forget you’re minutes away from residential neighbourhoods and downtown Leduc.
It’s one of those amenities that you don’t necessarily think about when choosing where to live, but you appreciate once it’s in your backyard.
We Have More Shopping and Restaurants Than People Expect
One thing I hear from people who aren’t familiar with Leduc is the assumption that you’ll constantly be driving into Edmonton.
You really don’t have to.
Between Leduc itself and the shopping around the airport, most of the things you need are close by. Restaurants, groceries, shopping, recreation, and everyday services are all easy to access.
Of course, Edmonton is still close when you want something we don’t have, which is really the best of both worlds.
The Airport Is Really Convenient
Everyone knows Leduc is close to Edmonton International Airport.
You don’t fully appreciate just how convenient that is until you’re coming home from a trip.
When you’ve spent the day travelling, collected your luggage and finally walked out of the airport, knowing home is only a short drive away is pretty fantastic.
You’ll Start Recognizing People Everywhere
Leduc has grown a lot, but it still has that smaller-city feeling.
Eventually, you start running into people you know at the grocery store, restaurants, community events, and while you’re out walking.
Depending on how you look when you leave the house to grab one quick thing, this can occasionally be either charming or unfortunate.
Every Neighbourhood Has Its Own Personality
One thing people sometimes don’t realize before moving here is how different Leduc’s neighbourhoods can feel.
Some have mature trees and larger established lots. Others have newer homes, ponds, and extensive walking trails. Some are close to downtown, while others put you closer to newer shopping and amenities.
There really isn’t one part of Leduc that works for everyone, which is why choosing the right neighbourhood can be just as important as choosing the right home.
Leduc Is Big Enough Without Feeling Too Big
This is probably the thing that’s hardest to explain until you’ve lived here.
Leduc has grown into a city with plenty of amenities, but you can still get across town quickly, recognize familiar faces and feel connected to the community.
And if there’s something you can’t find here, Edmonton is close enough that it’s not a big deal.
For a lot of people, that’s exactly the balance they’re looking for.
