It might be September, the kids might be back in school, and the stores might already be full of pumpkins, but I’m not ready to call summer over just yet.
If you know me, you probably know that I will choose a hot summer day over sweater weather every single time. Luckily, September in Leduc usually gives us at least a few more chances to enjoy the outdoors before Alberta decides it’s officially time for fall.
Here are a few ways to make the most of September in Leduc while we can.
Take Advantage of the Trails
September can be a great month for walking or biking around Leduc. The days are often still warm, especially in the afternoon, and we have so many great trails throughout the city.
Telford Lake is an obvious choice, but you don’t have to go far in most Leduc neighbourhoods to find a walking path, pond or green space.
Get in a Few More Patio Days
I refuse to believe patio season ends on September 1.
If the sun is shining and the temperature cooperates, September is still a perfectly acceptable time to grab a coffee, have lunch outside or meet friends for dinner on a patio.
We have plenty of months ahead of us when eating outside won’t even be an option, so I say take advantage while you can.
Spend an Afternoon at Telford Lake
Telford Lake is one of those places that sometimes gets overlooked when you live here because we’re so used to having it in our backyard.
Whether you’re walking the trails, sitting by the water or just getting outside for an hour, it’s a great way to enjoy one of those warm September afternoons.
Enjoy Your Own Backyard
You don’t necessarily need to go anywhere.
September is also the time to squeeze in those last evenings on the deck, BBQ dinners, backyard visits with friends, or simply sitting outside with a coffee.
The patio furniture doesn’t need to go into storage just because someone put pumpkin spice back on the menu.
One Last Taste of Summer
September always feels a little bit like borrowed time in Alberta. We might get beautiful warm weather well into the month…or we might wake up one morning and wonder what happened.
So while everyone else is getting excited about sweaters, pumpkins and fall colours, I’ll be over here hanging onto summer for as long as possible.
And if we happen to get a 25-degree day in September?
You’ll hear absolutely no complaints from me.
